Wow this will be a very interesting discussion because so far the virtual owner if the world is Google, but a social networking site Facebook not only overtakes the Google's social Networking site Orkut but also set to overtake Internet giant Google in the near future.

Orkut is the senior, but now way behind Facebook in ranking

--> Facebook launched in February 4, 2004

but at present the scenario is......

--> Orkut Ranking - 8(Orkut India) in India, 1165 in USA

--> FaceBook's Ranking - 3 in India, 2 in USA

Number of registered users:

Facebook - > 500,000,000

Orkut --> 100,000,000

2010 Stats - Facebook not only beats Orkut, but also Google

Facebook --> 8.93 percent of all U.S visits

Google --> 7.19 percent of all U.S visits

If the trends goes this way, and if Facebook starts search engine then there is a great chance that people don't go for Google for searching any results.

There is a trends that majority of people are online most of the time in  Facebook and if Facebook adds a new feature of search Engine in their existing template, then hardly people will go for Google.

But it is easy to say, hard to implement because even though these ranks reveals that Facebook is rapidly increasing, Google is still considered as the giant of internet and they will be prepared to compete against any level of competition.

Yet, with respect to the social networking sites, there is no doubt Facebook has emerged as the king.
