How to reach Pondicherry - Transportation to Pondicherry?

If you are coming from other countries, you can take a flight to Chennai. From Chennai you can hire a Taxi, which will take you to Pondicherry in nearly 3 hours. Pondicherry is located 150 Kms(approx) south of Chennai and so you will get buses frequently.

Apart from Taxi the other mode of transport includes

i) Buses to Pondicherry from Chennai- You will get a bust to Pondicherry for every 15 minutes and some of the buses includes,

--> Periyar Bus ( Tamil Nadu Government) - Rs.55

--> SETC Bus(Tamil Nadu government) - Rs.85

--> Ultra Delux AC Bus(Tamil Nadu Goverment) - Rs.150

--> Volvo AC Bus(Tamil Nadu government) - Rs.200 ( this is the fastest mode of transport in this route)

-->PRTC (Pondicherry Road Transport Corporation) Bus - Rs.55( Second fastest in this route)

Apart from this there are some private buses like Rathee Meena, Universal etc which costs more than 200/300, but will be faster than some of the buses mentioned above.

You can reach Pondicherry from Chennai via two ways,

a) By East Cost Road(ECR) - Prefer this if you are coming in day time as this gives you a scenic beauty of beaches and places throughout the travel to Pondicherry

b) By Bye Pass Route - This takes a longer time than that of the ECR route, but this is a four lane track.

ii)Trains to Pondicherry

This is not a preferred option, because of the availability of plenty of buses to Pondicherry from Chennai and moreover the frequency is less and travel time is more than 4 hours.

Closes Airport to Pondicherry

Pondicherry doesn't have any International Airport, but the closest airport includes,

1) Chennai - 150 Kms(Approx)

2) Trichy - 220 Kms(Aprox)

3) Bangalore - 320 Kms

4) Madurai - 320 Kms
